I'm an Aunt... again... YAY!

Since no one else has posted this yet, I'll do it.

Jared and Emily had their baby on Tuesday afternoon.
Guess what? It's a boy! How exciting for them!
He's 9lbs 2 oz and 20-3/4" long. As of the last I heard, they had not picked out a name yet, but seeing as it is the 26th when I post this, so, in all likely hood, they might have picked one out. I'll post it when I know.

I hear that I have three extremely excited nieces...

P.S. If you're wondering why we haven't gone to see the baby yet, our neighbors have had the sniffles and I want to make sure that Justin and I don't have them before we go see our nephew. Its a little respiratory thing they've got and we don't want to give it to any of the three new born great-grandkids.

This is what happens when your niece asks for something...

So, I happened to run into my sister-in-law and my niece the other day at D.I. They were looking for books, I was looking for jeans that don't hang clear down on my hips. While there, my sister-in-law told me that her daughter had asked if Aunt Rachel was going to make her (my niece) another hair clip that she could wear in her 6 year old pictures. I made one for her last year and, honest to goodness, could not think of what to get her this year. So, I said sure, what color did she want? Pink. It's always pink. I don't know why I ever ask...

Fast forward to the next Tuesday... I'm with Shae on our sewing night, helping her cut out a pattern for a skirt. Guess what color the fabric was? Pink! Not only pink, but pink satin with butterflies. Yeah, I asked for the remnants and made a couple of really cute (in my opinion) hair clips out of it for my niece, Lizzy. They were so cute, in fact, that I made one for myself. Here's the one I made for me. I'm even wearing it in my hair today...

P.S. I'm planning on making more and possibly selling them on Etsy. I haven't set up my shop yet, though, so don't go looking for it yet...

Sewing projects...

I thought I give you an update of my various sewing projects...

First is a clearer picture of the jean quilt block that I'm making. I know that the lines still don't look exactly square, but I promise that they are. And as for the little looping on the stitches... yeah, I saw them. I fixed them, too. It only happened on the outside of the block.

The next project, I actually finished last night on my newly established sewing night with Shae. It is an apron for Samantha for her birthday, since she turns eight tomorrow. Why an apron? I have no idea, really, I don't, but it was fun and she should be able to use it for quite a while... Even though I used all her measurements to make the pattern, it still fit over my head (snugly) and tied around my waist (barely).

This is a close up of the heart pocket on the top. I absolutely LOVE what you can do with paper piecing and it is so easy! As for the pockets on the bottom that spell out "SAM," I should have used my Cricut to cut it out and then use Insta-badge or iron on stuff to apply them and hand stitch them, but I didn't. I used my computer, cut out the letters, then traced them on to the fabric and stitched them on with my machine... and with out a hoop... oh well, I think they look pretty good...

What was that?!

Yesterday morning, at about six, a HUGE limb broke off of one of the large cottonwood trees in the pasture. The resulting crash as it pinballed its way down the tree, jolted me awake fearing that the roof was caving in on me.

I poked Justin. "Did you hear that? What was that?!"
Justin said, "DidIhearwhat?" all in his garbled morning voice. Yeah, he didn't hear a thing. Kevin and Sara did, though.

Here are some pictures of the carnage.

Notice how it missed our trailer by mere feet... Whew...
The red circle is where the branch broke off of.
